Education

I am one of the most expensive tutors and in demand coaches out there for one simple reason: my track record. My students love me, referring me to their friends and working with me for years. As a former straight A student myself (now business & entrepreneurship coach), I love helping my clients succeed. I have an MA and honors B.A. in English from the University of Toronto, graduating with High Distinctions. I was accepted to a very competitive Masters program at the University of Toronto (the Masters of Creative Writing in the Field of English) that accepts only 7 students in Canada each year. In the second year of the program, we write a book. Throughout my time as a student at the University of Toronto, I have won numerous scholarships and awards for my writing, including the Avie Bennett Scholarship, the Woodhouse Scholarship in English twice, and the Norma Epstein Award for Creative Writing twice. I have made the Dean's List each year since entering university. I recently completed an editing course at Innis College. I have been editing for years. I am very confident in my ability to revise texts, polishing essays so that they are clear, persuasive and powerful. My clients often email or text me to let me know that they have been accepted to the grad school of their choice or have received an A on the texts we have worked on and revised. It is my goal to see my students reach and surpass their own goals for myself and I am happy to say that I am often rewarded by seeing them improve and thrive! I also tutor students for whom English is a second language and provide a very positive and supportive environment for them. I help ESL students improve their confidence in speaking with native English speakers, pronunciation, vocabulary and conversational skills so that they feel proud speaking to others. I love learning about my clients' cultural/ academic backgrounds and interests and our classes are always fun and lively! The subjects I tutor include: English, Writing, English as A Second Language (ESL), Essay Editing, Literature, Debate, Presentations, Persuasive Writing, Interview Skills, Writing Personal Statements for Undergraduate and Graduate School, Award Applications, Public Speaking, Art, Creative Writing, Poetry, Communication, Grammar, Vocabulary, Pronunciation, Confidence, Study Skills, Organization

Experience

My area of specialty is Personal Statements for University & Graduate School Applications. I have had SO many success stories of my students who have been accepted to the school of their dreams through working together. I have been an ESL and English tutor as well as an editor for mature students for years. I have worked with a doctor, multiple business professionals and with many students from a diverse range of backgrounds and fields. I was a Teaching Assistant (TA) in two different courses at the University of Toronto, including a course called Effective Writing. For three years, I worked at a literacy camp for children. As a tutor, I draw on my talent for programming fun, personalized and stimulating activities to help students of all ages enjoy learning. Hobbies

My clients tell me that I am a very kind, encouraging, and compassionate person. I have a wonderful, very loyal base of clients who have stayed with me over the years. I care deeply about my clients and love helping them succeed at accomplishing their personal and academic goals. I have a positive and upbeat tutoring style. Many people I meet tell me that I am very funny and charismatic. My current clients express great appreciation for my services and most opt for long-term arrangements. I understand that all students have different needs and learn at different paces. I appreciate each person's unique abilities and work with students to inspire the best out of them as they tackle challenges. As a visual artist, a poet and an entrepreneur, I am creative and resourceful. I understand that tutoring is not just about getting better grades; it is also about feeling a sense of pride, confidence and accomplishment. Especially for students whose first language is not English, I understand the immense courage it takes to learn a new language and I treat students of all levels with compassion and sensitivity. I invest a great deal of time and effort into preparing sessions tailored to my clients' needs to help them gain a sense of confidence in their English skills and in themselves as people.
