Experience

I have been a consistently, highly rated teacher while being a professor at several universities. Tutoring in epidemiology and statistics, being patient and understanding, I make both subjects less intimidating by concentrating on concepts instead of math. I am a patient and empathetic Ph. D. epidemiologist and statistician who has successfully taught statistics and epidemiology to nurses, medical students, undergraduates and graduate students at several universities. I am an expert user of SAS, STATA and Excel. I am currently doing complex, advanced SAS programming. I know SPSS but am not currently using it. I am an innovative teacher that emphasizes deep understanding over complex calculations and can simply explain complex ideas in plain English, making them understandable. Students say how I can make statistics and epidemiology fun! and less intimidating. One way that I accomplish this is by teaching statistics in a non-mathematical way emphasizing what we are doing and why instead of getting bogged down in math. I developed and use extensively a "legal analogy" that compares the reasoning behind statistics to a criminal trial (published in the medical literature). I tutor in statistics, research methods, quantitative methods and epidemiology as well as graduate and professional school test preparation. I also provide superior high school tutoring in data management, science, biology, non-calculus math and English (specializing in OSSLT preparation). I have tutored dozens of students, with a very high success and satisfaction rate as evidenced by many referred and continuing clients. In addition, I offer expert assistance with assignments, manuscripts and theses. Hundreds of my valuable practice questions are available to my clients. I tutor individuals or small groups ($25/additional individual). Price starts at $45/hour. Send me a note and we can discuss whether I can help you. From R.M., York University, Introduction to Statistics: “Eric, not only did I pass stats, but I received a mark that was inconceivable to me at the beginning of the semester. Thank you for all of your help, I could not have done it without you!” "When I came to Eric, I was totally confused and my final exam was just around the corner, so I was in fear of failing. After just two weeks (6 two hour sessions), Eric provided clarity and helped me understand what I was doing. He is extremely knowledgeable, encouraging, motivating and supportive of people who are struggling with statistics. Thanks to his help, I was able to pass the course with a good mark!"; Michelle J., Statistics for Business BUSI1033, Yorkville University, NB (distance learning course)
