Private tutor in Toronto, Canada

Education

I graduated from UTS with a 99% average and was admitted to every university to which I applied. I won an AP scholar award for my results in math, biology, computer science, and french. I went on to study Chemistry and Math at the University of Toronto, and received an Honours degree with high distinction, along with a full ride of scholarships. I am now pursuing a PhD in physical chemistry, though I have publications in astrophysics, chemistry, and theoretical quantum computing. I have been awarded Vanier Canada Graduate scholarship for academic excellence and leadership, the most prestigious scholarship available to Canadian graduate students. For a complete list of my academic honours and achievements, I will gladly forward my CV along with my tutoring agreement.

Experience

I have over ten years experience tutoring in mathematics and science. I specialize in tutoring math, physics, and chemistry. I was hired as Head Teaching Assistant for the largest calculus course in the country, leading a group of 45 Teaching Assistants to deliver a calculus course to over 2500 students at the University of Toronto. I now work in course development designing updated materials for this same course, and have also worked on course development for upper year quantum mechanics. Alongside my PhD research, I work as a Grade 12 Physics Teacher for a prestigious private highschool in Toronto, The Abelard School. In 2018, I founded the Toronto Chapter of CAUSE Tutoring, a not-for-profit and registered charity which provides free tutoring to those effected by homelessness. In private tutoring, I have experience working with students from age 6 up to age 40, at levels spanning elementary school to university. I have experience working with students with ADD, anxiety, and other behavioural problems, and have helped students move from the remedial highschool math course up to their dream degree in International Economics. I have also worked extensively as a hockey coach, both 1 on 1 and as head coach of a team, as well as running coaching clinics for adults who wish to become better hockey coaches. As a child, I was homeschooled for 2 years, and so I am familiar with the challenges as well as the strengths of educating kids in this setting. I am committed, diligent, professional, knowledgeable, and highly experienced. References available upon request (current and former employers as well as students).
