Private tutor in Toronto, Canada

Education

TESL Canada and TESL Ontario (#T100385) Certificates at the Canadian Centre for Language and Cultural Studies, Toronto, 2012. Bachelor of Education at Queen's University(# 581591), Kingston, 2009. TESOL Certificate at TEFL International, Thailand, 2005. Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honours at York University, North York, 2002.

Experience

Growing up in “The Electric City,” Peterborough, Ontario, Lief loved camping at Silent Lake, exploring new places, and directing Canadian theatre. Wanting to continue being creative, he came to Toronto, and was surprised to find himself the ethnic minority on the streetcar. From there, he wanted to meet and make friends with people around the world. He started in South Korea, where he began to truly understand students’ struggles and strengths. Using their interests, he watched them go from hating something to loving it. Knowing that he wanted to continue helping students overcome difficulties to reach their goals, he worked in Taiwan, Thailand, and Cambodia; at Canadian Business College in Mississauga & Toronto; and, on a First Nation reserve in northern Saskatchewan. Since 2004, Lief has taught singing babies, bouncing kids, rebellious teenagers, and adults of all levels, while always learning the local language. His Bachelor of Arts in directing theatre at York University; and a Bachelor of Education at Queens University, was the spark to helping English as a Language (ESL) students prepare for IELTS/TOEFL/TOEIC exams, improve their business and daily communications, and overall become fluent English speakers and writers.

Hobbies

What I love the most is making documentaries about people overcoming difficulty. We use people's audio diaries, music, and personal home videos to show our joys, stresses, hopes, and wishes. I also enjoy learning languages; I've gone to school for Thai, Korean, Japanese, French, and Vietnamese. I take pride in making songs from student's, friend's, and acquaintance's thoughts and feelings. And I just love listening to people's stories.
