Education

I was one of the first 14 students to graduate with a Master of Studies (MSt) degree from the University of Oxford's Film Aesthetics programme in 2008. Prior to this, I completed a BA Honours degree with a double major in Communication Studies and Professional Writing from York University (Toronto) in 2006. I graduated on the Dean's Honour Roll List and with a magna cum laude distinction. I've always been academically inclined; during school, my exam results put me in the top 2.5% in all of the UK during, both, A-Levels (2002) and GCSEs (2000).

Experience

Over the past decade, I've honed my journalism and writing skills, having worked for an international television news channel, that is available in 130 million homes in over 100 countries, as well as a general interest print publication, that was distributed across the United Arab Emirates. Before taking up journalism, I worked in advertising for two years. During the past 11 years, I've intermittently tutored people from the ages of 10 to 25 in subjects including but not limited to: English Language and Literature, Reading, Writing, Comprehension, Creative Writing, Shakespeare, Composition, Spelling and Grammar, Editing, Poetry, English As A Second Or Foreign Language, Journalism, Film Studies, Media Studies, Communication Studies, Professional Writing, Copy Writing, Advertising, some World And British History, Beginner's French, Study Skills and Organisation, Exam and Test Preparation and University And Other Entrance Essays. I love the idea of tutoring and the clarity it helps brings students. I believe in a positive approach that draws attention to and builds on a student's strengths. It's an incredibly gratifying endeavour... And, one that I believe I'm good at! Those times when a student has a 'lightbulb' moment and when he/she sees his/her hard work pay off in terms of grades or admissions are particularly special.

Hobbies

I think it's important to add here that I'm a positive, friendly, easygoing individual and am articulate, patient and good at explaining things. I do love teaching! :) In addition to tutoring, throughout my career, I've taken interns under my wing, several of whom I'm still in touch with. It's a pleasure seeing them come into their own, over the years. I also love laughing and making people laugh. My interests include music - above all else! - and film, television, poetry and comedy. After having moved back to Toronto recently, I'm enjoying exploring the arts, entertainment and culture scene in the city. I volunteered at a special needs school while growing up. The relationships I struck with the students there, who were aged 3 to 18 and above, were some of my favourite, especially in terms of being able to witness developmentally significant breakthrough moments. Fragile-X Syndrome, in particular, is an issue close to my heart.
