Dr. Serban M.
Private tutor in Toronto, Canada
Education
I'm a recent medical graduate from Romania, with an equivalent cumulative GPA of 4.0. Prior to making the switch, I completed 3 years of my Economics BA at York University. I'm going to be applying for an Internal Medicine residency in the USA and Canada this coming cycle.
Experience
I've sat both USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 CK, and scored above the 90th percentile on both exams. I've also sat the Canadian IMG examinations (MCCEE and NAC OSCE) and scored at the 100th and 97th percentiles on them, respectively. Because I am studying abroad, the curriculum there is not tailored towards these exams. As such, I spent months researching exactly how to approach and prepare for these exams in the most efficient way possible. They are not easy by any means; but having a structured and goal-directed approach will almost guarantee you succeess. Furthermore, I took these exams very recently, and so the information and question styles are very fresh in my mind. I think this fact makes now the ideal time to offer tutoring services as these exams change drastically within only a couple of years. I want to be a tutor because I love teaching and sharing my knowledge and hard work with other hard-working individuals. These are very high-stakes examinations, and I would find it humbling and joyous to play a role in and be a part of your success in them. Aside from studying, I have a couple of papers published as first author in respected medical journals (with a third on the way, keeping fingers crossed) in Internal Medicine (more specifically cardiovascular disease and lipidology).

Hobbies
Outside of academia, I enjoy reading non-medical, non-fiction books in my spare time, on subjects ranging from psychology to math and physics. I also play and study chess, and play the guitar and the occasional video game now and then. Most recently, I've taken an interest in photography, although this can get quite expensive and will likely have to wait until after residency to be fully explored.
