B.A., (Hons) English & Theatre Studies - Warwick University, UK; M.A., English Literature - Warwick University, UK; M.F.A., Creative Writing - University of British Columbia, Canada. I consider myself a lifelong learner, and the pleasure I take in education is something I endeavor to pass on to all my students. My first two degrees provided me with a wide knowledge of literature and writing styles; my MFA in Creative Writing gave me the skills to engage students with exciting and imaginative writing projects.
Experience
I have taught English, Theatre Studies and Creative Writing for more than 20 years in schools, universities, at conferences and for my own tutoring company. I am a published author: my novel for young adults ("The Finding Place") was released in 2015 and in 2019 I published a text book on Shakespeare, for educators. My passion is inspiring young people to love literature, enjoy reading and to write well. I work with young people who want to improve their language and literacy skills, and I also work with gifted language students who are looking for further enrichment. I use creative writing to help young people connect with the power and the pleasure of words, and I also work with youth and adults who love creative writing and want help working on a project - such as a novel. I am the director of an overnight summer arts camp for children and teens, so I understand how to connect with youth, and the importance of enthusing them as they learn. Hobbies
I love to travel, and have visited more than 20 countries, sharing my experiences in articles and on a blog. I've spent my life working with young people in the arts and in education: through my overnight summer program (Centauri Summer Arts Camp) and my arts school in Toronto. Writing is my passion, and I love to share this with my students. I am married with a teenage daughter, and recently we acquired a parrot who keeps us all entertained with his antics!
