Experience
I am a fully certified (Ontario College of Teachers certification) teacher I have a great deal of experience tutoring students. I have tutored students one-on-one and through a private agency. Although my teachables are at the secondary level, I have experience tutoring students at all grade levels (Grades 1-12 and University level) At the tutoring/learning centre I work at, I developed and ran an "Essay Workshop" where I taught students basic writing skills, sentence structure, paragraph writing, and essay writing. By the end of the unit, students were able to independently complete a polished and effective essay. Many of the Grade 12 students I work alongside are taking online English courses. I help students navigate through the course, particularly the novel study sections. I read the novel with the students and help them grasp key concepts and ideas. Therefore, I also have experience with novel studies and reading comprehension. I also have SSAT Preparation Experience. I have taken the Special Education Part 1 and English as a Second Language Part 1 Additional Qualification Courses, which have allowed me to learn crucial teaching strategies which help students in need. I have also taken an "inclusive education" course which taught me how to meet the needs of all the students in my class. Currently, I am also in the process of taking my Junior Qualification, which will certify me to teach junior grades as well. I graduated top of my class (Summa Cum Laude-the highest academic distinction) and won numerous scholarships. I believe that these achievements are evidence of the fact that I am a hardworking person and that I am dedicated to learning.
