Education
I have two bachelor's degrees: one in Education (P/J) from UOIT and another in Linguistics/English from York University. I also have TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) Certification from Oxford Seminars and am familiar with the Ontario Curriculum and working with students who have learning differences.
Experience
I have over seven years of professional ESL teaching experience, including two years as a 1-on-1 tutor, two years teaching English to Chinese students in grades 1-8, one year of teaching Conversational English to Chinese adults, designing an ESL curriculum for Accounting Professionals in Toronto, one year of teaching English Immersion to sixth-graders in Amqui, Quebec, two years of working in camps and after school programs (ages 6-12), and two years teaching the Ontario Curriculum for grades 1-6. Despite my strong ESL/ELL background, I'm comfortable tutoring subjects such as reading, linguistics, standardized test prep, writing, philosophy, and elementary math as well. I can also help students prepare for the TOEFL.

Hobbies
I love travelling and learning new languages. I have studied French (Intermediate) and Mandarin (Beginner). Having lived in foreign countries, I understand the needs of an ESL learner. I teach using situational conversations that allow students to practice real-world English use. I love discussing linguistics and philosophy. I read often, both fiction and non-fiction.
