Experience
I've been working as a freelance tutor from my first year as an undergraduate student, and most of my students recently have been undergraduates as well, mainly focusing on research, essay writing, grammar, spelling and argument structuring. Essentially, I have been teaching students how to express their ideas effectively. My approach to tutoring younger students is to use the student's own interests as the driving force behind our studies. For example, if a student is fascinated by cars, and has to research for a report on life in the middle ages, I'll steer the research process towards medieval modes of transportation and how that relates to the development of the car. It may be a stretch, but I find that if the student can somehow connect the studies to his or her own passions, the results increase tenfold - not only in terms of grades received, but in passion to learn more. I have also worked as a teaching assistant at the University of Toronto (in both Introduction to Theatre and Introduction to Environmental Studies courses), and as an experiential and educational tour guide for grades 3-12 with the company WalkTO. With WalkTO, I've found that hands-on lessons can be more impactful than lessons at a desk, and so I strive to incorporate as much hands-on learning in every tutoring position as I can.

Hobbies
My hobbies and interests can be grouped into two vastly different categories. First - I'm an artist. I write plays, novels and short stories, which are produced across the country (at cabaret nights in Toronto and Vancouver, and in festivals such as the Fringe Festival). I am also fascinated by the circus, and am studying static trapeze, poi and hula hooping. Second - I'm a dedicated cyclist. I have cycled across Canada, down the west coast of the US, around the UK and Ireland, and through Central America. I love to travel anywhere I can, and find that it is the best way for me to learn about another country and culture. I also love to share these experiences with students who might be interested in the countries I've visited.
