Education

I hold a PhD in English from the University of Toronto and am a PhD-trained editor, educator, and learning strategist with extensive experience supporting learners across elementary, secondary, postsecondary, and adult education contexts. I have worked with university, high school, and elementary students, as well as ESL learners and adults seeking tutoring and standardized test preparation. My approach is student-centred, supportive, and highly individualized, with a particular strength in explaining complex material clearly, strengthening writing and critical thinking skills, and helping learners break large tasks into manageable, achievable steps. Drawing on my experience as a lead writing teaching assistant and writing consultant, I support students with academic writing, research, test preparation, organization, and long-term learning strategies, always with a focus on building confidence, clarity, and independence. Experience

I have over twelve years of tutoring experience supporting learners from pre-kindergarten through university and adult education, along with more than six years of cumulative teaching experience at ESL academies specializing in English language instruction and standardized English proficiency exam preparation, including TOEFL and IELTS. I am a former registered tutor with McMaster University, where I supported students in English, Linguistics, academic writing, and related humanities and social science subjects, and I have extensive experience as a teaching assistant across multiple university programs, including English, Journalism, Media Studies, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Women’s Studies, Popular Culture, and Criminology. I am also a Sylvan Learning Centre–certified teacher with experience teaching a wide range of age groups and learning levels. My academic skill set includes strong support for standardized English proficiency exams, academic writing, reading comprehension, critical thinking, research skills, and organization, as well as study strategies, time management, and breaking large academic tasks into manageable steps. In addition, I am an experienced academic editor providing substantive and stylistic editing for essays, research papers, theses, and dissertations, and I regularly support students with application materials for academic programs, including personal statements, statements of purpose, research proposals, and CVs. I hold a completed PhD in English and have advanced training in pedagogy, writing instruction, curriculum development, and research methods.

Hobbies

I'm deeply passionate about education and about helping learners gain clarity, confidence, and independence in their academic work. I love working one-on-one with students, where I can tailor practical guidance to each learner's goals, learning style, and educational context. Outside of tutoring, I have a strong interest in teaching and aspire to continue working as an educator and professor. I especially enjoy academic and creative writing, and I love exploring how writing and literature connect to arts and culture, including theatre, film, and other media.
