MA in Teaching English (TEFL)
Experience
I have MA in teaching English (TEFL) and my mother tongue is Farsi( Persian). I have been teaching English at different universities since 2003. Also, I founded my language institute in 2014 and I'm the manager and teacher there. I teach both adults and children at my academy. In addition, I have published 5 books and 5 articles that one of my books includes my own English poems was published in Australia (www.xlibris.com.au) > Besides, I'm a painter (artist) and have participated in four painting exhibitions in Canada. Also, I can play Setar (Iranian musical instrument) and have been working solfege and singing for two years. It is my desire as an instructor to help students meet their fullest potential by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, and invites a sharing of ideas, a learning environment that is both exciting and rigorous, one that empowers both student and teacher in pursuing learning. I devise various assessment strategies that allows me to fairly assess student learning regardless of the student's learning styles. Above all, I treat my students with the utmost respect. When the teacher's role is to guide, providing access to information rather than acting as the primary source of information, the students' search for knowledge is met as they learn to find answers to their questions. For students to construct knowledge, they need the opportunity to discover for themselves and practice skills in authentic situations. Providing students access to hands-on activities and allowing adequate time and space to use materials that reinforce the lesson being studied creates an opportunity for individual discovery and construction of knowledge to occur. I believe that learning requires deep understanding that can only come when students internalize and actively apply knowledge in creative and meaningful ways. In any class I teach, I hope that students will be able to wrestle with the course material in their own lives, applying abstract theories to what they experience in their everyday world. Ideally, this approach should empower students to articulate ideas and process concepts in ways that are meaningful to them. I believe students are best served when they are actively and rigorously engaged in the class so I use cooperative and active learning strategies as well as lecture in my classroom and try to develop assignments that foster both analytical and critical thinking and opportunities for creative application. When planning a course of instruction, I identify a set of objectives and skills. Next, I compile a rationale for each objective and skill. I design a course plan that emphasizes the application of critical thinking skills to foster deep learning, and the use of collaborative learning skills to facilitate “real-world” problem solving. I also embed activities in the instructional process that are designed to help students develop research and four skills of the second language as they engage in learning of content materials.
